Topic

Ringing or other noises in one or both ears, often due to a health condition.

Wear protection over the ears, such as earmuffs, around loud noises. Turn the volume down low while listening to music with headphones. Limit alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.

See a health care provider right away if tinnitus happens with:

  • Trouble hearing.
  • Symptoms such as feeling faint, weak or woozy.
  • Anxiety or depression.

See a provider if:

  • Tinnitus gets in the way of daily life.
  • The symptoms start after a cold or other illness and don't get better within a week.
